On June 27th, I had the pleasure of attending the Alberta Somali Community Centre and watching as they presented the youth in their community with awards and recognition of community service. Earlier this year I was able to attend a function at the Alberta Somali Community where they looked at bringing the community together to help with crime prevention and youth development. This most recent event was a continuation of the determination of the Alberta Somali Association to see positive development in their youth and encourage the continuation of crime prevention and skills development.
Matthew Altheim and Executive Director Mahamad Accord
I was proud to address the crowd and commend them on their progress along with MP Laurie Hawn, MP Tim Uppal, and MLA Thomas Lukasik. ASCC president Jama Nur and Executive Director Mahamad Accord are doing a great job with their hard work and dedication to further develop the Alberta Somali Community Centre and see the next generation of Canadian Somalis, follow the strong legacy set before them.
Canada is a multicultural society and it is always encouraging for cultural and community organizations to take initiative and develop plans within their ethnic groups.
